(The Aliyah described in Ezekiel 37:12) For several years the issue of Jewish roots and identity has arisen in a remarkable way within the church, touching every denomination and sector within it. There are spiritual, as well as historical, reasons for this. We know that we are in a period of Aliyah (going up to Zion, returning to the Land). We see this happening in the natural, as Jews are returning to the land of Israël from all the nations of the Diaspora. But we also see this happening in the spiritual. Everything Jewish, which had been previously hidden or dormant, is now resurfacing or being revealed. Many are discovering their own Jewish origins which had been hidden. Those with these newly discovered roots must deal with their effects, and they need to understand how to position themselves now, both in their personal lives and in regard to the church. Then there still remain questions regarding the Marranes (those forced to convert to Christianity), the descendants of mixed marriages, etc. Who are we, how do we see ourselves in relationship to our churches, how do we experience the truth of the "one new man" as expressed in Ephesians 2:11-22, etc.
